These designs started when I took my first step on the 1,400-mile long Florida National Scenic Trail. For 3 years I'd wanted to thru hike the FT \u2013 from Big Cypress to Fort Pickens \u2013 to get up close and personal with my home state.\u00a0<\/p>
There's an adage among hikers that the trail delivers exactly what we need.<\/p>
I\u2019d had my sights set on the northern terminus but after 326 miles, I was completely overwhelmed, alone and knee-deep in anxious fears. I kept asking myself WHAT<\/em> was I afraid of exactly, and the answer was always \u201cNothing specific, just a shapeless shadowy void that will swallow me whole.\u201d<\/p> Looking back now, my body was releasing stored emotions that I\u2019d intellectualized over the years but never actually FELT. They were lodged in my body and after walking for weeks with the weight of a backpack on my shoulders, things were shaking loose.<\/p> \"You've got to feel it to heal it.\"<\/em><\/strong><\/p> I left trail after 6 weeks and connected with a community of people focused on building emotional resilience through somatic practices. It's been a lifesaver!<\/p> There are moments in life where we come face to face with our own limitations \u2013 and we CAN get through them by developing new tools, new approaches and new awareness to deconstruct the roadblocks inside and clear a way forward.<\/p> These designs are small Notes to Self as I continue to walk my path \u2013 reminders to feel the feelings as they come up, embrace the wisdom they carry and know that safety is inside me.
